New Infrastructure

The construction of new infrastructure

Without infrastructure such as access roads and utilities in place the development won’t be able to progress. That’s why BAE Systems is committed to investing in key parts of the infrastructure framework now in order to get the development under way.

Creating access

Access roads for the development are a priority. We’re planning to build two roads from the A8, one in the north eastern corner of the site and one at the south eastern corner. These new access roads will help minimise disruption to local residents by diverting traffic before it reaches Bishopton.

The northern access road will start from a new roundabout on the A8 and cross to the northern margin of the development area. It will service development across the northern sectors of the site.

The southern access road will leave the A8 at a roundabout near to Barrangary Farm to enter the site via a new bridge over the railway. This will give access to the southern and central parts of the development. Both access roads will be built at similar times (during 2012 and 2013).

Drainage

We’re currently working on the detailed design of the drainage network. For surface water this involves constructing a series of large water retention ponds. These will prevent flooding and help release surface water from the development to local burns.

The foul water drainage system is being designed to take account of available capacity in the local network of sewers leading to the Erskine Waste Water Treatment Works.

Utility services

Utilities for the new development (drinking water, gas, electricity and communications) are being planned to meet the needs of the early stages of development. This new infrastructure network will then be linked to the existing networks in Bishopton.

Improvements to local roads

We will be making minor improvements to some of local roads in Bishopton as required by Renfrewshire Council.
