The transformation of the former Royal Ordnance site at Bishopton, Scotland is one of the largest brownfield site regeneration projects in the United Kingdom.
A brownfield site is one where the land has previously been used for industrial purposes – and the Bishopton site has been dormant for many years. Our ambition is to revitalise this space. We want to transform the site into a new, thriving community of homes, recreational facilities, commercial and community buildings. We want the development to expand the existing community of Bishopton and create local employment and commercial opportunities.
BAE Systems is the site owner. Working closely with Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), we are responsible for managing this multi-million pound transformation project that will take place over the next 15 years,
During 2011 and beyond, we will prepare the land, construct essential infrastructure such as access roads and drains to serve the new development, and co-ordinate the individual projects that will be completed by a number of different developers.
This website aims to answer your queries, set out our plans, and provide information about everything from key project timings to activity we are undertaking to protect local wildlife and their habitats.
We will continue to update the site as work progresses. If you have any reason for concern, or if you’d like more information about this work, you can call or write to us. Our freephone service is available at all times for you to speak with someone, or leave a message with your details and we will make sure that the right person gets back to you.
